Data can be imported from a Google Docs Spreadsheet using the File > New > EasyCatalog Panel > New Google Docs Spreadsheet Data Source… menu option.
Since September 2024, Google have changed how applications can access Google Drive files. These changes require version 19.5 or later of EasyCatalog to be installed. Whereas previous versions were automatically granted access to all of your Google Drive files after the initial authentication, you are now required to grant access to individual spreadsheets using a browser window. This browser window is displayed after the initial authentication or by selecting the Browse… option in the Spreadsheets menu.
1Authentication
Permission needs to be granted to EasyCatalog to access your Google account. After pressing the Authenticate button a browser window will open where you should log in to your Google Account. During the log-in process, you will be asked to grant permissions to EasyCatalog – specifically:
- See, edit, create, and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app
We require this permission so that we can display a list of spreadsheets in the Spreadsheet pop-up on the configuration dialog. Due to changes in the way EasyCatalog is allowed to access your Google Drive files, only the spreadsheets you have selected using the Browse… option on the Spreadsheet pop-up will be accessible by EasyCatalog.
- See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets
We require this permission so that we can download the content of your spreadsheet as an EasyCatalog data source, and update the content (if you use the Update Datasource… menu option). We do not delete data from your spreadsheet, or delete entire spreadsheets.
2Choose spreadsheets to import into EasyCatalog
Once you have granted permission to EasyCatalog to access your Google account you will be directed to a web page where you can select the spreadsheets you want EasyCatalog to access.
For an individual spreadsheet you only need to grant permission once, so if you have previously performed this step you can close the browser and return to EasyCatalog. Once you have selected the spreadsheet(s) you want to work with, press the Submit button to return to EasyCatalog. The Spreadsheet popup should now update to show the spreadsheets you have authorized EasyCatalog to import.
3Adding Spreadsheets to the Spreadsheet Menu
If you need to add a spreadsheet to the pop-up, use the Browse… option in the Spreadsheet pop-up to open the file chooser web page again. When you return to EasyCatalog, the Spreadsheet pop-up will update.
